Magical Charms

Teacher: Stephanie Waggoner
Day: Tueday
Fee: $120 or 3 payments of $45

Description: There is a wide variety of magic used in the world of Harry Potter. While naming spells, author J. K. Rowling pulled from a variety of languages including Aramaic, Latin, and Sidiki.  In this class, which will have an arts and crafts aspect in *most* weeks, we will be focusing on the spells of the Potterverse, their effects, and their etymology.  We will be relating the use of words and roots from other languages to similar practices and uses in English (even without taking a foreign language we know that “aquamenti” is in some way related to water because there are English words that use “agua” or “aqua” in them).  There will be no homework for this class.

The Kane Chronicles

Teacher: Cameron Hopkins
Day: Tuesday
Fee:$120 or 3 payments of $45

Description:This class will be based on The Kane Chronicles by Rick Riordan. Let’s go on adventures with Carter and Sadie Kane as they learn about Egyptian mythology and battle gods and demons to save their family and the world. Along the way, we will discover Egyptian gods, magicians, monsters, and more. There will be discussions, activities, and light projects. Homework will be 30 minutes to an hour, depending on reading requirements and interest in topics. If students haven’t already read the series, recommend they at least read the first book over the summer.
